Como, Italy

An aerial view of Como from the hilltop town of Brunate. Roman influence on the city center’s plan is evident. The cathedral (duomo) is visible towards the middle of the photograph.

A closer shot of the Duomo di Como.

View of Duomo di Como (formally Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta) from Piazza Duomo.

Detail on the facade of the cathedral.

Inside the cathedral. This was the first time I’ve taken a photograph inside a church in Italy, and also the first time a guy in religious uniform startled me from behind and said, “My friend, tripods are not allowed.” I had to boost my camera’s light sensitivity to the maximum as a result.

Detail on the dome of the cathedral.

A typical street in Como.

A night scene in the streets of Como.

Storefronts at Piazza San Fredele.

View of Como from the lake, with the dome of the Duomo topping out the cityscape.
