A friend and I dug a hole in a huge snowbank in front of my house. After a week of higher than average tempartures, the snowbank started to melt, dripping freezing water into the "cave" and thinning its roof, allowing some light through.

When we could get inside and were inside, the air was cool and quiet, devoid of any sounds from the outside world. In that sense, yes! It was another world.
