The Thaw

March 19, 2010

When snow melts, what had been covered underneath it resurfaces. Dirt and trash that lumped together in a series snow shovelling reappears, as though they are awakening after a season of hibernation.

Ice Cave

Ice cave with stalactite

A friend and I dug a hole in a huge snowbank in front of my house. After a week of higher than average tempartures, the snowbank started to melt, dripping freezing water into the "cave" and thinning its roof, allowing some light through.

Basket of Bliss

Ski goggles, balaclava and lobster mitts stuck into a helmet

A delightful ensemble adorned with balaclava, lobster mittens and tinted ski goggles in a crash-resistant headgear. An ideal gift for the winter two-wheeled commuter looking to eliminate skin exposure.

Porous for its thick-threaded origins, the Crimean-named breathable sheath resists winds and provides high levels of heat insulation. Observations of ice accumulation at engine exhausts are common.

Ice forming on the balaclava, formed from the condensation of breath

Keep the engine running smoothly even on the dullest overcast days with a premium band of chromatic enhancer.

Don’t forget to finish off the top with ample crumple zone to prepare for the unfortunate moments.

Snow all over the crossing of Carden and Wyndham Streets in Guelph

Slippery winter conditions on Gordon Street, Guelph

Rougher tires for a rougher season:

These are 27” Tioga Bloodhound tires I got from MEC. Grip is pretty good, feeling in control most of the time. I slipped once on black ice, which may be avoided with some studded tires; or if I paid more attention to the road.

Cold and bright

January 20, 2009

The morning sun shined straight into Speed River, evaporating its surface. Vapor immediately condensed into water droplets, turning them into mist that floated over a bridge.

Second best part about cycling early in the morning.

It's been a really, really busy season for me and it won't be any different in the next few weeks. Here I am squeezing in a little photography while I can...More...
