Convert a door to a computer table

April 16, 2006

I had a computer desk that was made purely for working at the computer. I loathed the slide out keyboard tray and found the surface too high. It was uncomfortable to do simple things like reading a book.

I went to a furniture store to look for one that is more suitable. A saleslady there talked about her days as a student and how she hung a door under a window to make a table. I decided to make my own along the same lines.

Video: cycling through Ojibway Park

August 1, 2005

I put more thought into Summer Run 2 than previous videos. Previous videos were filmed as documentaries, without the use of excessive special effects. It was time to try new things as my videos were getting stale.

I was pleasantly surprised by the result.

The soundtrack is by Mono - Com.

Erie Loop - The Gear

May 17, 2005

Preparing for the cycling trip involved nothing more than a simple list made on Notepad and nights of excitement looking forward to the trip, keeping me awake. There was going to be a self-sufficient mobile home, a video production center, a photography lab all in a small world I bring with nothing more than the muscles below my torso.

The tight budget I had made it all the more interesting. $300 tents, gas stoves and other camping luxuries were ruled out in favour of $10 alternatives and the lovely merchandise from the local dollar store. There was no cargo space in front. I had to make do with two relatively small panniers in the backMore...

A 007 parody

February 7, 2005

I received a video art assignment that read:

Though relatively young, the use of video as a medium has already developed into various genres… Each of these has established a certain format that is readily acceptable by a board public in a smooth uncritical way… All I am asking you in this project is to look at one of these traditions and cast doubt on them through disruption.

Basically, I needed to find one or more points in a use of video and replace the element with something else to find out the results. Initially I wanted to use footage from Friends and replace the dialogues with something unintelligible to the common people but preserving the annoying laughing tracks. But I did not really like the idea, because I needed voices of various people. More...

Video: cycling in the winter

January 1, 2005

This video is a montage of clips from the days around winter solstice, when we were dumped with snow and blanketed in extreme cold. There were bright, blue, sunny days though.

The weather conditions during the video were:

Day 1: Light snow fall, about 1cm (1/2 inch). Took a ride to Ojibway Park, and then Malden Park. Temperature: -12°C (10°F). Overcast. Takes made into the video are scenes starting at 2:46, 5:24.

Day 2: Heavy snow fall, about up to 20cm (8 inches). I took a ride around town. The traffic was slow and it was still snowing. But halfway through the ride, the sun began to shine and it was really nice.

Takes made into the video are scenes starting at 0:20, 2:00, 2:08, 2:58.

Day 3: The rest of the video comes from the best day, when there was snow everywhere and the sun was shining bright. I took my bike to Ojibway and Malden again. I liked the climb most; it was pretty magical when I put it on video. I carried the bike up most of the way. 3:44 was when I saw an eagle floating in the sky. That's interesting, because I've never seen a real eagle before. Temperatures then were -12°C (10°F).
